The MLK Club gave away four $1,000 scholarships to high school students Kalisha T. Goree, Brittni L. Clopton, Jenna L. Klinedinst and Tiara A. Poindexter.
Not only were there a large number of Fort Wayne blacks in attendance at the Dr. King Unity Day Celebration, but there was an emancipation spirit in the air.
The largest Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration in the state of Indiana lived up to its name Jan. 20 as a record crowd attended the annual event honoring the slain civil rights activist.
The late George Smith was a pure example of living an unselfish life. The MLK Club will hold a tribute to Smith to celebrate his life and the many contributions he gave to various causes.
