Go healthy, go vegan

Just in time for American Heart Month, which is observed in February, comes the disturbing news that one out of every five U.S. teenagers has a cholesterol level that puts them at risk for heart disease. Overweight and obese teens are even more likely to have high blood cholesterol and develop clogged arteries. Parents can help young people slim down and reduce their cholesterol by teaching them to eat a healthy vegan diet.

Vegan foods are naturally cholesterol- free and have been shown to reverse heart disease. According to Dr. William C. Roberts, the editor- in-chief of The American Journal of Cardiology, “A vegetarian diet is the least expensive and safest means of achieving the plaque-preventing LDL [good cholesterol] goal.”

Vegetarians are known to have lower rates of heart disease, lower blood cholesterol levels, and lower blood pressure and studies show that that vegans are nine times less likely to be obese than meat-eaters are.
