By Bennie Edwards

FORT WAYNE—American Legion Post 148 and the American Legion Riders Chapter 148 recently joined efforts in awarding scholarships to three local high school students during an awards program held on Dec. 5 at the post. Scholarships were awarded to the children of military veterans in honor of Veterans Day. In attendance at the program were the students, their parents, guests and officers from both the American Legion and American Legion Riders.

This year’s scholarship winners are:

  • Michael Hayes, a South Side High School student, who plans to attend Marshall University.
  • Naomi McLemore, a Wayne High School student, who plans to attend Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis.
  • Moriah Taylor, a South Side High School student, who is plans to attend Indiana University.

Each of the scholarship winners will receive a $500 scholarship upon attending college.

It is imperative as a community that we support and encourage our children to seek higher education. We all know that education is the key to future success.

“If we want our kids to do right, we must do right by them.”—Judge Glenda Hatchet
