Information for Community Bulletin MUST BE SUBMITTED AT LEAST TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO DATE OF EVENT to be considered for publication.   • The Alzheimer's Association, Greater Indiana Chapter will host a series of Community Conversations to provide education and information for the community. The three part series will be held at the Community Center, 233 W. Main St., on from 1-2 p.m., Dec. 1, Dec. 8 and Dec. 15. The first in the series, will be Know the 10 Warning Signs: Early Detection Matters. This topic provides attendees with an understanding of the difference between age related memory loss and Alzheimer’s disease and will be presented by Sue Forte, Regional Advisory Board Pres. The second topic in the series will be Making Legal Decisions and will be presented by Mr. Steve Adair, a local elder law attorney and member of the Regional Advisory Board and will provide information on the financial and legal issues that can arise with a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease. The third topic will be on Aging Safely at Home, and will be presented by Chip Koltash, LCSW,C-ASWCM, a member of the Regional Advisory Board. This program that will teach you how to cope with challenging behaviors, teach you verbal and non-verbal communication skills. The program is free and pre-registration is requested.   • Dr. John Bequette, assistant professor of Theology at the University of Saint Francis, will deliver a lecture titled “Christians, Jews and the Holocaust: Coming to Terms with a Troubling Past,” at 7 pm., Dec. 3 in the North Campus Auditorium, 2702 Spring St. For more information, call Angie Springer at (260) 399-8066 or aspringer@ sf.edu.
  • The First Presbyterian Theater, 300 West Wayne St., will be performing “FPT Christmas Revue” beginning Dec. 3. The play is a mix of Christmas songs, stories and skits. For more information, call (260) 422-6329.
  • Scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors at Talent Day on Dec. 4 in the Mimi and Ian Rollan Center for Art and Visual communication at the University of Saint Francis. High school juniors are welcome to be revwed and receive advice in preparation for their senior years. Appointments are necessary; to reserve a time or for further information, contact the School of Creative Arts at (260) 399-7700, ext. 8001. The scholarships awarded are renewable for eight semesters with an appropriate GPA and can be added to any academic scholarships or need based grants students might also receive.
  • The School of Creative Arts at the University of Saint Francis will open the Ceramics/Prints Invitational Exhibition from 7-9 p.m., Dec. 5 at the John P. Weatherhead Gallery in the Mimi and Ian Rolland Art and Visual Communication Center. The exhibition will run through Jan. 17, 2010. Gallery hours for the exhibit are 9 a.m.- 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday and 1-5 p.m., Sunday.   • The Fort Wayne Dance Collective will present “Nuts & Crackers” at 7 p.m., Dec. 11 and Dec. 12, and at 2 p.m., Dec. 13. Dance performances will feature students from the fall 2009 semester of classes. Performance ages range from 3 year old Creative Movement students to adult modern dancers.   • Come As You Are Community Church, 7910 S. Anthony Blvd., will host an evening of “Connection” for married couples in the community from 6-8 p.m., Dec. 13. The move “Fireproof” will be shown in the sanctuary. For more information, call (260) 447-6036.
  • A love program will be given to honor Pastor Authur Craig of New Beginning Christian Church at 6 p.m., Dec. 12 at Rennaisance Baptist Church, 5515 S. Hanna St. For more information, contact Community Evangelist Dorothy Nichols at (260) 459-2162.
  • United Way’s Learn United initiative is looking for 250 more volunteers to work with elementary school children to improve their reading skills. To date, Learn United has recruited 750 local volunteers to work with children who struggle to read. Some of the volunteers work through existing programs like Study Connection and Project READS, while others volunteer to work with students in the classroom during the regular school day. All kinds of volunteer opportunities are available. Learn United staff will work with individuals to find a schedule that works for them. Anyone interested in volunteering should call 260.469.4030 or visit www.LearnUnited.org to browse dozens of different opportunities.
  • The NAACP Membership Meeting is held at 7 p.m. on the 4th Thursday of every month at Weisser Park Youth Center, 802 Eckart St.. For more information, call (260) 744-2176.
