FORT WAYNE—West coast rap legend Spice 1 (aka The Eat Bay Gangsta) is scheduled to perform at 9 p.m., Nov. 13 ad Broadripple, 4610 Parnell Ave.
Rated by the Source magazine among the 115 greatest rappers of all time, Spice 1 released his eponymous debut album in 1992 painting a grim picture of “ghetto” life followed by what some have termed the even more nihilistic “187 He Wrote.” In 1994 he released “AmeriKKKa’s Nightmare” considered a classic among groundbreaking rap albums. Spice 1 also contributed to the soundtrack of the chilling, eye-opeing film “Menace II Society.”
Known for his edgy, often fatalistic view of innercity life, Spice 1 has proved uncompromising in his approach to music, reportedly switching record companies at one point in his career rather than “soften” his image and style.
With more than 10 albums under his belt, including the 2009 release, “Home Street Home,” Spice 1 continues to work on his recorded output both as a solo artist and as a collaborator with various other artists including MC Eiht, Jayo Felony, Too Short, 2Pac, E-40 and Ant Banks.
