Absolutely amazing and a very successful event is my assessment of the third Annual ALR (American Legion Riders) Rally held on June 6, at Post 148. God blessed us with a beautiful day and a remarkable show of support from ALR Chapters in Indiana, American Legion Post 148 family, vendors, Edy’s Ice Cream, Step-a-Fonics, Stunt Riders, various motorcycle clubs and the local community. A special thank you is also extended to our sponsors, Woodson Motorsports and D&M Apparel.
We had a fabulous time celebrating our anniversary and all in attendance appeared to have a great time as well. Winners of the various contests listed below received a beautiful red, white and blue patriotic trophy:
- Slow Roll—Allen Johnson, Post 423, Orland, Ind.
- Loud Pipes—Chuck Sheimer, Post 31, Angola, Ind.
- Pin Drop—Allen Johnson, Post 423, Orland, Ind.
- People’s Choice for Best Bike— Marty Manahan, Post 86, Kendallville, Ind.
The grand prize winner of the 2009 Silver Tank Moped was Joyce Paige; second prize winner of the $50 cash was Joe Diedrich, and the third prize winner of a $25 gas card was Ramona Howard. Congratulations to all the winners! ALR Post 148 members want to thank everyone for their participation and support in our major fundraising effort and rally.
Upcoming events include the ALR National Roundup in Willard, Ohio on July 19; Carl Brown Memorial Ride on Aug. 1; National Round-Up in Atlanta, from Aug. 6 through Aug. 9; SAFY Charity Ride—fundraiser for foster parents and children—on Aug. 15, and Black Expo on Aug. 22. For additional information regarding upcoming events, exciting road trips, or on becoming a member of ALR Post 148, contact me at (260) 760- 6867 or send an e-mail to bjecsm011@verizon.net.
The American Legion Riders is one of the fastest growing military veterans’ motorcycle organizations in the country. Members of ALR Post 148 Chapter are proud to be a part of this growing motorcycle phenomenal. We take great pride in representing Post 148 in this state and national organization.
If we don’t support our community and our American Legion, who will?
