FORT WAYNE—Veterans—and motorcycles—were out in full force June 6 when the American Legion Riders (ALR) of Post 148, 705 E. Lewis St., held their third annual motorcycle rally.
More than 400 riders from American Legion Riders chapters and other motorcycle clubs from the American Legion’s 4th District attended the full day of fellowship, food, games and friendly competition. Riders from local American Legion Riders chapters as well riders from the Angola, Orland, Kendalville, Avilla and other district chapters came out to participate.
The American Legion Riders is a organization of U.S. military veteran motorcycle enthusiasts who get together to share their love for the road and to serve the community in a number of ways by participating in various service projects, contributing to veteran organizations and providing scholarships for the children of veterans. Fort Wayne has four local chapters, including the one at Post 148. Indiana has 72 American Legion Riders chapters with more than 2,500 members.
Additionally, the American Legion Riders of Post 148 auctioned off a 2009, 50cc moped to help support the club’s scholarship program. Joyce Paige was this year’s winner of the moped raffle.
