FORT WAYNE—At approximately 11:10 p.m., Sept. 8, officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the report of a multi vehicle accident involving a semi-tractor trailer and two passenger cars on US 30 at Goshen Road.

When they arrived on scene officers observed a passenger car partially underneath the rear trailer of the semi. The victim, who was the driver of the vehicle under the trailer, was pinned in her car requiring extrication by Fort Wayne firefighters. It took firefighters 25 minutes to free the victim. She was transported in critical condition to a local hospital.

Witnesses said the second passenger vehicle involved in the crash was traveling east on US 30 at a very high rate of speed. The speeding vehicle impacted the rear of the victim’s car sending her vehicle into the trailer of the semi. The victim’s car became entangled in trailer and was dragged for several feet before the semi could come to a stop.

The driver of the second passenger car received minor injuries and was also transported to a local hospital.

The semi-tractor trailer operator was not injured.

Eastbound US 30 was closed to traffic for several hours while investigators processed the scene.

This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Indiana State Police and the Allen County Prosecutor’s office.
