FORT WAYNE—At approximately 2:20 a.m., Sept. 13, officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the Sports and Spirits Bar located at 1723 E Wayne Str. in reference to a shooting investigation.

As officers and paramedics arrived on the scene, they located three male victims inside the establishment. Paramedics provided medical attention to the victims at the scene. A short time later paramedics pronounced the three male victims—later identified as 21-year old Demario Burnett, 31-year old Jerry Coleman and 30-year old Nicholas Powers—to be deceased.

Two additional victims arrived at a local hospital after being transported by private means where they were listed in good condition.

Witnesses told investigators they heard gunshots inside the bar and saw an individual running from the scene on foot.

There is no suspect information and no arrests have been made at this time but investigators continue to collect and study evidence, including video surveillance footage that might possible yield leads in solving the homicides.

Subsequent reports indicate that bar owner Burke Baughman has closed the bar and voluntary relinquished his liquor license at the spot. Police officials said they have had 10 page of reports of problems at the bar dating back to 2006, including a dozen shootings, a number of stabbings and nuemrous fights.

Anyone who may have information regarding this investigation is asked to contact the Fort Wayne Police Department at (260) 427-1222 or Crime Stoppers at (260) 436-7867.

This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, Allen County Coroners Office and the Allen County Prosecutors Office.
