What’s up, babies?

As we continue traveling on our journey of love, to get to know one another better, I have some fantastic news to share with you.  This Saturday, July 23, Renaissance Pointe YMCA is having their second annual block party and it’s guaranteed to be a fun and exciting afternoon which gives us the opportunity to spend some quality family fun time together once again.  So at this time, we bring to you Melisa to share the beauty that we can expect:

“Hello, Frost Illustrated readers.  My name is Melisa McCann and I’m the membership director of Renaissance Pointe YMCA that’s located at 2323 Bowser Ave., here in Fort Wayne. Our business hours are Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.  We’re very excited to bring to everyone our Second Annual 2016 Block Party on Saturday, July 23, 2016 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the theme of, Tearing Down Walls and Building Bridges.

Melisa McCann speaks at last year's YMCA community event.

Melisa McCann speaks at last year’s YMCA block party.

“This is a three-way phenomenal partnership between Renaissance Pointe YMCA, Abundant Life Church on Coliseum Boulevard, and the city of Fort Wayne ‘Cities United initiative’ under the direction of Iric Headley.  There are also several main co-sponsors involved which are Star 88.3 FM, Biggs Property Management, MHS, Anthem, MDWlse, Brightpoint and Sam’s Club.

“The point of this event, is to bring the community together in a positive explosion of family fun and activities.  This is a Christian event but we welcome all faiths and we’ll pray for our Mayor Tom Henry, the city of Fort Wayne, for unity in the community, for people coming together and having a good time, because prayer lifts up, brings hope and unites people, especially in this day and age, where you see a lot of unfortunate divide.  This is a place and a time where we can celebrate love for one another, celebrate helping each other out and getting these organizations connected with people that need the help that our city is ready to provide them, this is what this event is all about.

“The YMCA, is very excited to host this event and we’re excited to be the platform in which people in the community can come and get resources to empower their lives and impact them far beyond this event.  The Police Department, chief of police, Fire Department and over 30 organizations from the community will be present.  It is hosted by our very own Melissa Montana from Star 88.3 radio and radio 102.3 will be present to advertise and record this event live and we’re giving away 900 book bags filled with school supplies for the kids.  We’re also giving away 3,000 hot dogs and popcorn.  We’ll also have seven Bounce Houses, a Puppet Show, Los Amaneceres de Mexico Dancers will perform, we’ll have live music performers, splash pads, food trucks, games and a lot of fun for everyone.  And, for some additional fun for kids Mickey Mouse, Bible Bear, the Fire Dept., Mascot Spot will be here, the Komet’s Mascot will be here, a Stilt Walker and who knows who else will show up, just come and see it.

“Last year’s event was phenomenal, we had reported numbers of over 1,500 people and we had a really great response but this year, we’re taking it to the next level.  We have a lot more community involvement and community organizations including the live broadcast via radio and so we’re anticipating an even greater response.  We’re going to utilize the whole back side of the YMCA and it’s a very large piece of land and we’ll have parking attendants available to help you with parking.  We hope everyone is able to come out, even if it’s just for a portion of the time.  Because you don’t want to miss this, this is going to be a time of fun, food, inspiration, a great kick-off to the school year, a great moment to connect with people in our community and to be a part of something great.”

Now in closing I say, fantastic!  I can’t wait to feel the beauty and I hope to see you there too.  So until next week you’ve been Up Close with Jeanie.  Bye bye, babies.

P.S.  If you’d like The Spotlight shined upon you or someone you know, all in the name of love,  just send me an e-mail to upclosewithjeanie@yahoo.com.  I’d love to hear from you.
