What’s up, babies?

Check this out, it’s not everyday that the First Lady of a church contact me to shine the spotlight on someone in our community that she and her pastor husband, want to recognize for being an outstanding humanitarian.  And, with me being me, I love to hear that kind of talk.  So on Saturday, Feb. 27, I met them at Friendly Cleaners so that some beauty and love could be bestowed upon the owner.  And, since the Sims wanted this to be a surprise, I conducted their interview outside to find out the story behind this recognition so we can bring it to you and this is what was said:

“Hello, Frost Illustrated readers.  I’m Pastor Willie Sims from Of The Way Missionary Church…

“and I’m Saundra Sims.

“We’re both here at Friendly Cleaners to pay recognition to a dry cleaner owner because he takes good care of the community and the children with food, homework and a lot of other things.  His name is Michael but we call him Buck and he deserves this Outstanding Humanitarian Award because this guy has dedicated his whole life to the community and we want to present him with this award, on behalf of our church.”

That was sweet and now we’re walking inside the cleaners to surprise Buck and it’s pretty exciting to me because I’m not the one being surprised.  Here he comes now and he’s very happy to see us and says hello, then he and Pastor Sims talked for a while and then Saundra brings out the plaque and it read:

“Buck, for outstanding humanitarian service to the south side community.  With deepest respect Pastor and Mrs. W.J. Sims, Of The Way Missionary Church.”

Buck responds:

“This is a blessing and thank you so much.  I didn’t expect anything today and I never really thought I’d get such an award but the Lord is a rewarding God and this is beautiful.”

On that note, Pastor and Lady Sims departed and so, at this time all we’d like for you to do is just sit back, relax and feel the love:

“Hello, Frost Illustrated readers.  My name is Michael Arrington and I’m the owner of Friendly Cleaners that located at 1834 S. Hanna St., and my business number is (260) 744-2734.

“I born and raised in Fort Wayne and  attended Arthur Campbell High School in Plainfield, Ind., and that’s where I learned the trade of dry cleaning because my brother Eddie did it so I wanted to do it too.  I’ve been in business for 15 years now but it started off with me and my brother as partners but he decided he didn’t want to be in business with me because I believe in working hard and some people say, they don’t.  I’ve always been a hard worker, it’s something I learned from my dad and from the Bible because God tell us, that we should earn our keep by the sweat of our brow and so, working hard is part of my life.

“I enjoy what I do because the Lord has blessed me to work and make my money here at the cleaners but it’s mainly to tell somebody about Him and help somebody that need some kind of help, a purpose and/or some direction.  I’m just a guide-man to lead them and tell them where they need to go and that’s to the Lord.  Everybody else is talking about what they can get while they’re stealing, killing and destroying but that doesn’t sound good to me.  So I’m in here, just working hard and doing what I’m suppose to do and what the Lord tells me to do.  He tells me, I’m going to reap what I sow, so by me doing what I’m suppose to do I’m reaping it and I’m still here and He’s still taking good care of me and I can’t complain about anything.

“Buck is my street name but I’d rather be called Michael because sometimes you have to change up since the old things is what’s holding you back.  A lot of us are so content with the old that we don’t understand that the new is better.  And, when you get content, sometimes it had to pull you out of the mud because you got use to it but thank God for pulling me out the mud.  I listened to my inner spirit and changed or I wouldn’t be anymore and I’m not perfect, I need help and that’s why I trust in the Lord with all my heart and lean not on my own understanding.

“I was leaning on my own self and I was doing anything anybody could think of.  I was in the streets since I was 11 years old and I’m 53 now but I didn’t have a career in the streets, no pension no nothing. But since I’ve been working, I may not have a pension but I got the Lord and the Lord got everything.  So there’s no limit to what I can have because when you’re dealing with eternal God, there’s no limit.  He said, He’ll give me what my heart desires and I believe that because I don’t have to duck and hide anymore.  And, that’s a terrible thing, when you have to duck and hide every time the police come because you’re living in fear.  There are a lot of people out there that’s living in fear and if you don’t tell people the truth, how are they going to be free?

“Here at Friendly Cleaners, I’m working for the attorneys, funeral homes, preachers and the upstanding citizens in the community and it’s really a beautiful community but a lot of us got to step up and start being accountable for our leadership.  What I mean by that is, we must live a truthful, spiritual and holy life, that’s what will make a change.  You see, they’re looking for changes around here but it’s not going to change and I know that reading the Bible, God said, when there came a change it had to be once the people repented for what they did, turned from their wicked ways and prayed to Him and He heard their prayer and freed them and made things better.  But until we do that, we have to continue to see this abuse, killings and murders because we live in a sinful life.

“The word says, the truth will make you free so if you start telling people the truth over and over and over, they’ll start listening.  And, something’s are simple to do but other things are not so simple such as learning to love your enemy.  Because how can you love your enemy, when they’re treating you bad?  But the word of God says, love your enemy and it can be done because God taught me how to do it.  Even when people dog me out, I’m nice to them because I can’t lean on myself anymore if I want to be a great servant.  And, I’m going to be a great servant but God may say, he wasn’t any good but he tried and that’s enough for me.  Some people aren’t even trying because they don’t know how.  But if God blesses you, you can do anything and I’m working on it.

“I’m in training and being in training means, I got to learn to humble myself and I got to learn to go through the abuse that Jesus went through and take somebody spitting on me and take a good beating.  Can you take being low?  Can you take doing it the way the Lord tells you to do it?  Because if you can do it, you’re going to be blessed.  Look at the position that Jesus was in, look how low he had to go to be high.  God gave us life in His son Jesus and if Jesus died for you and me, then look how low he had to go just to get up high, even though he was already there.  I don’t know what God is preparing me for but I know I’ve got a little bit more beatings to take and it’s not all that bad because He can deal with the pain for me.  He can let me get beat and I’ll still be doing all right.  Because  when you understand the power of God, that’s when you can start to enjoy life and that’s what I’m learning, I’m enjoying life.

“I’m getting blessed and didn’t expect nothing because I’m trusting God and whenever He brings up something, thank you Lord, thank you Father, in Jesus name.  I know, I have to be humble and if you’re humbled and just trust God to supply all your needs and trust Him to bless you with whatever you ask if you trust Him, He knows what best.  This is a God that can give you whatever your heart desires if, it’s in His will which means, it’s got to be right.  You can’t expect Him to give you a gun to go and kill your brother.  You can’t expect Him to be with you when you’re doing somebody wrong and you can’t hurt somebody and expect the Lord to be with you.  So I learned, if I work hard and trust Him and seek the Kingdom of Heaven, righteousness and everything else will fall into place.

“I enjoy working for the community, I get the chance to meet a lot of people and a lot of people get to share with me and help me and I can share with them and help them.  It’s almost like a team thing and I like it and I also like helping the children by giving them little snacks when they get home from school because some children  don’t have food at home and it will hold them until there parents can get them something.   Doing this for them came from, when I was a little kid and Mrs. Virginia used to give us cookies and donuts when we’d go to Link’s skating ring and the Lord put it on my heart to give back because a lot of children are in the same boat that I was in as a child.

“And, in being humble, people always have something for me.  The preachers come here and share with me just like Pastor Sims and a lot of times, I don’t make it to church much so the Lord always send the preachers by.  And, sometimes I ask them, ‘Did the Lord send you here to spy on me or something?’ God already know that I’m doing what I’m suppose to do because He sees what I’m doing and we all laugh afterward.  I thank God for being able to have the opportunity to give back to the community and that’s what I’m excited about because before you die, what would you have done with your life to show that you did something for the Lord and for me, this is it.  I don’t have to have a pulpit, I can be a voice just like John the Baptist in the wilderness right here telling somebody about the Lord.  I don’t have to have a pretty church, I don’t have a have a big beautiful new car but if the Lord blesses me with it, I’m going to enjoy it and I’ll continue to treat everybody fair.  I’ve been in training for 15 years and you’ll know when you’re close to the Lord because it’s something about God’s presence that’s going on inside of me that makes me feel I’m not by myself.”

Now in closing I say, fantastic job, Michael, on spreading GOD’s love to HIS people, I’m so proud of you.  And, to Pastor and Lady Sims, thanks for calling me so I could feel some of the beauty, joy and happiness that he brings to the community, in the name of love.  So until next week, you’ve been Up Close with Jeanie.  Bye bye, babies.

P.S.  If you’d like The Spotlight shined upon you or someone you know, in the name of love, just send me an email to upclosewithjeanie@yahoo.com, I’d love to hear from you.
