What’s up, babies?

It pleases me to bring to you this week’s spotlight because being a creative writer, I’ve seen so many businesses come and go but Jerrell’s Barber Shop is celebrating its 25th year anniversary on Sunday July 31, 2016 and to me, that means he’s doing something right. And by the grace of GOD, I hope he has many more years.  On that note, let’s have some fun as you learn more about him as a man and as a barber from some of his clientele, then you’ll hear from him:

“Hello, Frost Illustrated readers.  My name is Darrell Davie and I’ve been coming to Jerrell’s Barber Shop for probably 15 or 20 years.  The environment here, is very Christian-like and Jerrell is a very good role model for this city and, as far as barbers, he’s a very good role model because of the way he conducts himself and the atmosphere is always friendly.  Jerrell does not allow any bad language in his shop and that’s good because there are young people here and we need to be positive role models for our black youth and adults and Jerrell’s is a good example.

“And, I’m very happy to be a part of his spotlight because he’s been in business for 25 years and that is indeed a blessing.  He’s a very God-fearing man, good family man, a good father to his children and I’m very proud of him.  I’ve known him for about 30 years or more and I’m from Kentucky, I use to come to Fort Wayne to visit my brother when I was a kid and Jerrell was a young kid but he’s been an outstanding young man for this community and it’s just a blessing to know him.  I’m not sure if I’ll be able to be here this Sunday but I’m sure it will be a blessing and I encourage everyone to come out and support him because he’s one of the pillars of this community, as far as, young black entrepreneurs and he’s a great barber.”

“Hello, Frost Illustrated readers.  My name is Timothy Grant and I’ve been coming to Jerrell’s close to five years now.  I became interested in his shop because it’s very family-oriented, positive and community-oriented so it drew me naturally because of what I do with the community.

“I’m the student outreach coordinator for Unity Performing Arts and so I think this should be the shop were a lot of the youth should take advantage of because they can get a lot of knowledge here and there are very good positive people that comes here, its awesome and  I encourage parents to bring their kids here.  I work with kids between the ages of seven and 19 and I recommend them to check out Jerrell’s and if they’re interested in Unity’s Arts Program, to check us out too.  Congratulations Jerrell for 25 years, that’s an amazing feat in the neighborhood and you’re still going strong, that’s awesome.”

“Hello, Frost Illustrated readers.  My name is Leonard Heath and I’m one of the barbers here.  I specialize in almost everything with all grades of hair and I also can do a little more of the extreme haircuts if you want it.  All together, I’ve worked at Jerrell’s for about three years and I’m really looking forward to this celebration because you only hit your 25th year anniversary once and it’s a great accomplishment for a small business.  I’m proud to be a part of it and share in it with Jerrell, the rest of the barbers and I invite everyone to come out this Sunday and join us.”

“Hello, Frost Illustrated readers.  My name is Alex Brookshire and I’ve been a barber here for three years now and it’s a wonderful place to work.  It’s the second barber shop I’ve worked in and this is a nice atmosphere and Jerrell is a real nice guy.  Jerrell’s is a good place for therapy, to ease your mind because we discuss a lot of information and if, I we’re a barber just getting out of school, this is where I would try to work.

“Twenty-five years is a great milestone of cutting hair and serving the community, that’s a wonderful accomplish.  Also, I’ve been knowing Jerrell since we was about ten years old and he’s still the same.  I’m happy we hooked back up and I’m in the shop with him.  I’m also happy to prepare the barbeque for this event, so come on out.”

“Hello, Frost Illustrated readers.  My name is Terence Whitt and I’ve been coming to Jerrell’s for about three years because I’ve been following my barber Alex, for about 13 years and wherever he goes that’s where I’ll be.  Twenty-five years is a wonderful accomplishment and I’m definitely going to attend the celebration and my barber Alex barbeques the best turkey tips in the city.”

“Hello, Frost Illustrated readers.  My name is Christian McLemore and I’ve been coming to Jerrell’s for about 15 years and Jerrell is a very good guy and I’m definitely going to be here to celebrate with him.”

“Hello, Frost Illustrated readers.  I’m Jerrell Davenport, I’m the owner of Jerrell’s Barber shop Inc., along with Strutables Hair and Nail Salon that’s located at 2104 S. Clinton St.  We’re having our 25th year anniversary and I feel blessed.  Blessed to have been in this community for 25 years servicing clientele behind the barber chair.  I started Jerrell’s Barber Shop initially at 502 E Pontiac St., and I was there a little over 15 years and I’m going on 10 years at this location.

“Our customer appreciation event is Sunday July 31st 2016 from 2p.m. to 8p.m., and we’re inviting everyone.  We plan on having a block type party atmosphere with DJ Ronnie B, Barber Alex Brookshire is barbequing, so we’re going to have food, fun, a bounce house for the kids and we’re going to play some games, spades, chess and just socialize and enjoy.”

Now in closing I say, I’m so proud of you Jerrell and I definitely hope to see our readers there so they can show you some love   As we travel on our journey of love together, to get to know, one another better.  So until next week you’ve been Up Close with Jeanie.  Bye bye, babies.
