Man killed durring robbery attempt at apartment complex

FORT WAYNE—At approximately 6 a.m., Aug. 5, officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a 911 call regarding a shooting at 7934 Winston Lane. Once on scene, officers discovered an unresponsive male in an upstairs apartment. Fire and medic personnel determined the man, later identified as 23 year old Dominique Williams, to be deceased.

According to a witness, robbery was the motive. The witness, also a target of the robbery, reported that two male perpetrators entered the apartment and confronted both the victim and second man who was staying with the victim. At some point during the incident shots were fired. The other resident of the apartment, who was unharmed, was able to escape and place a call alerting police to the shooting.

Detectives are working to get descriptions of the two perpetrators. It’s unknown what if anything was taken in this incident.

This death remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Coroner’s office and the Allen County Prosecutor’s office.
