Cornerstone Christian Prep celebrates 25 years

FORT WAYNE—Cornerstone Christian College Prep Day & High School is scheduled to hold its 25th Anniversary Celebration 6 p.m., Feb. 6 at the Destiny Dome Embassy and Cathedral of Praise International, 3501 Harris Road.

The guest speaker for the event is Dr. Steve Perry, founder and principal of Capital Preparatory Magnet School in Hartford, Conn. Capital Prep has been cited by U.S. News and World Report as one of the top school in the country. The school, which has a predominantly low-income, minority students, who often are first generation high school graduates in their family, has sent 100 percent of its graduates to four-year colleges since its first class graduate in 2006.

A strong advocate of personal and civic responsibility in all aspects of life, Perry , emphasizes the social issues that aim at building up both the individual and the community so that the next generation can be better contributing members of society.

Cornerstone boasts similar stellar statistics for its graduates, including:

• 99.4 percent graduation rate;

• 100 percent college acceptance rate;

• 70.1 percent college retention rate;

• Zero percent of students involved in judicial system;

• Zero percent drug use while on campus;

• Zero percent use of violence on campus;

• One percent dropout rate;

• 94.2 actually attended college for at least one year;

• In 25 years of the school only three girls have experienced teen pregnancies as students. The rate is zero percent for boys.

In addition to Dr. Perry’s keynote address, Cornerstone is set to honor a number of its past graduates including:

• Tyree Barfield of Fort Wayne, class of 1997, juris doctorate from Western-Thomas Cooley Law School;

• Apryl Underwood of San Francisco, class of 1999, attorney, graduate of University of Wisconsin Law School;

• Jaami Franklin of Taiwan China, international educator, graduate of Santa Clara University;

• Sarah Frank of Fort Wayne, class of 2005, youth advocate, graduate of Spring Arbor University, and

• André Bobb of Chicago, class of 2006, college educator, graduate of DePaul University.
