FORT WAYNE—The congregation of Union Baptist Church, 2200 Smith St., is scheduled to install new Senior Pastor the Rev. Dr. Timothy L. Lake during a special service at 4 p.m., Jan. 24 in the sanctuary of the church.

Prior to the celebration, there will be an evening of cultural expression featuring music and dance at 6 p.m., Jan. 22 and banquet at 6 p.m., Jan. 23, both at the church.

Dr. Lake was called to lead the flock at Union following a national search conducted by a pastoral committee made up of distinguished elected church members and deacons of the church.

As a native of Fort Wayne, Dr. Lake brings a truly unique blend of academic, professional, theological, social experience and expertise to the congregation. He has an earned Ph.D. from Bowling Green University in Ohio, MA degrees in religious studies and systematic theology from Howard University School of Divinity and University of Notre Dame, respectively. Dr. Lake received his BA from Ball State University. He also is a graduate of R. Nelson Snider High School in Fort Wayne.

Dr. Lake has been a member of Union Baptist Church for more than a decade, serving on the ministerial staff while holding, at various times, administrative positions at Indiana University-Purdue University, Fort Wayne (IPFW) and Manchester University in North Manchester, Ind. He currently is an associate professor of English at Wabash College.

Lake’s professional career has taken him many places in the U.S. and around the world, including travels to Ghana, Nigeria, the Gambia and Israel.

“We are immensely blessed to have him at the helm of Union, the oldest black Baptist church in Fort Wayne,” said Union Baptist Installation Committee officials in a press statement. “His vision and efforts will allow us to continue to build upon our history and legacy of lifting up Christ and serving God’s people.

“Please join us in congratulating the Rev. Dr. Timothy Lake and our First Lady Mrs. Carmon R. Swinson-Lake.”
