MLK Day of Service: ‘What are you doing for others?

FORT WAYNE—Councilman Glynn Hines is seeking nominations for the “Just Say YES Awards” which is scheduled to be presented during the second Annual Youth Empowerment Seminar, MLK Day celebration at the McMillen Park Community Center on Jan. 16, 2016. The awards are presented annually to youth/teens who, in the spirit of King’s “beloved community,” have made a positive difference in the lives of others, but who are not widely recognized for their efforts.

The contest is open to all Fort Wayne/Allen County students in grades six through 12. Each student will be asked to tell us “What are you doing for others? Tell us about your community service one page or less.”

All entries must be accompanied by the offi­cial entry form (click here to download a PDF: MLK Day of Service awards) and received by Monday, Dec. 21, 2015. All entries will be reviewed by a panel of judges selected by the sponsoring organizations. Judges decisions are final.

Four overall winners will be selected. All applicants will be invited to the second Annual Youth Empowerment Seminar MLK Day Celebration at the McMillen Park Community Center on Jan. 16, 2016. At the program, the winners will receive the “Just Say YES Award” from Councilman Hines or his designee.
