Theoplis Smith artworkFORT WAYNE—The opening of “Can You Spare Change,” Theoplis Smith’s first solo exhibition with Wunderkammer Company, 3402 Fairfield Ave., is scheduled for 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Feb. 8. The show is a social commentary constructed through the use of black and white paint on simple scraps of cardboard. It asks the viewer to understand “change” through the lens of history, the empowerment of the individual, and even need for emulation in those who have made great change in the past.

The majority of this exhibition was produced in February 2013 as Smith produced an image a day exploring his thoughts and feelings on black history, the black historical icons, and the great changes made in the 19th and 20th centuries through abolition of slavery and the Civil Rights Movement.

Smith created the acclaimed cover of Frost Illustrated’s 2014 King Special Edition.

Also opening is “ALT,” is an invitational group survey of experimental and unconventional sculptural practices in Northeast Indiana and Northwest Ohio.

The suggested donation to attend is $2. A cash bar will be provided by CS3.
