Artist’s statement:

We all have come to know and love the civil rights Leader Dr. Martin Luther King. The many selfless times and acts of courage didn’t happen over night.

Being created equal also wasn’t overnight, it was in moments of not being boxed in, speaking up and showing a nation to spare change or see another perspective of life.

The cover art is a small token, a small symbol that through our layers of moments what do people see in you as we do in Dr. King? Our foundation can create more freedom or taint the building process in all creeds, colors and Country.

The art exhibit entitled “Can You Spare Change” will be the first show of 2014 for Theoplis Smith III. 28 icons of African Americans that spared change in a world of hate, ignorance and pain that reached the mountaintops of triumph. Now giving the world a wealth of possibilities to become great. The world has a poor mentality, come find lost treasure.

“Can You Spare Change” is scheduled for 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Feb. 8 at Wunderkammer Company art gallery, 3402 Fairfield Ave., in the old Casa restaurant location.
