FORT WAYNE—At approximately 9:47 p.m., Jan. 2, Fort Wayne Police responded to the intersection of New Haven Avenue and Coliseum Boulevard on the report of a possible kidnap attempt. The 911 Communications Center was alerted by a passing motorist who witnessed an adult female escape a motor vehicle by climbing out of a window of a dark in color Cadillac. The female victim said she had been battered and held against her will at the suspect’s residence before being driven from that location. Investigators learned that the two had recently met and knew one another for approximately two days prior to this incident. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries she sustained during her ordeal.Officers were able to determine where the alleged perpetrator lived but were unsuccessful in their attempts to make contact with him. A decision was made to secure the immediate area and at 10:50 p.m. the E.S.T. and C.R.T. teams were deployed in an attempt to get the suspect to surrender to officers peacefully. At 2:05 a.m. the suspect left his residence and was taken into custody without incident. He was transported to police headquarters where he was interviewed, later charged with criminal confinement and battery but was later released after the complaining party reportedly recanted her story.
