Nell R. Anderson. 77, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2014 at St. Joseph Hospital. She born Sept. 1, 1936 in Shreveport, La., and moved to Fort Wayne in 1965. She retired from Fort Wayne State Developmental Center in 1995 after 30 years of service. Surviving are her children, Alfred III (Denise) Anderson of Campton, Ill., Louise Freeman, Carolyn (Arthur) Moore and Barney Anderson all of Fort Wayne, Rev. Dr. Robert Anderson of Charlotte, North Carolina and Randal Anderson of Fort Wayne; sister, Helen DeBose of Fort Wayne; uncle, Oscar Draughn of Shreveport; aunt, Velma Jean Draughn of Shreveport; eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.She was preceded in death by her parents, Alberta Guions and Ruben Allen, three sons, Ruben, Tommy Lee and Wilbert Anderson, two sisters, Lucille Allen and JoAnn Allen and Alfred Anderson Jr. Service was Saturday, May 17, 2014, at Union Baptist Church, 2200 Smith St., with burial in Covington Memorial Gardens. Bessie Murray Bland, 82, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2014. She was born on Nov. 14, 1931. Funeral service was Friday, May 16 at Kingdom Door Worship Center. Arrangements were by Carmichael Funeral Service.
Ella Rena Marshall, 102, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2014, at Harbor Assisted Living. Born March 22, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Minor and Georgiana Smith. She is survived by one grandson, Morris Gearring; a host of nieces and nephews; a daughter she never had, Mrs. Greg (Bonnie) Simmons and daughter, Amy; and a host of other family. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, William “Bill” Marshall; son, Donald “Sonny” Marshall; sisters, Mary Palmer and Vernia Kemp; and brothers, Berkley Smith, Everett Smith, James Smith, Jackson Smith, and Minor Smith Jr. Funeral service was Saturday, May 9, with burial in Covington Memorial Gardens. Mary L. Parish, 90, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Parkview Regional Medical Center. Born March 25, 1924, in Marion, Ala., she was a daughter of the late Dave and Martha (Jemison) Turner. During the 67 years Mary lived in Fort Wayne, she was a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her many friends, cheering on the Chicago Cubs, and watching NBA basketball. She was an avid quilter, hand-sewing them the old-fashioned way and donating many quilts to be distributed to children in foster care. Mary leaves to cherish her memory her only child, Martha J. (Parish) Hatch; grandchildren, Patricia Wilson (and grandson-in-law, Michael Jones), Tiann Doll (and grandson-in-law, Jeff Doll), and Anissa Hatch; five great-grandchildren, Alex and Chip Jones, Jacob and Taryn Doll, Makenna Culpher; two adopted great-grandchildren, Brianna and Chris Jones; one sister, Louise Pitchford of Miami, Fla.; dedicated nephew, Julius Parish; very best friends, the Rev. E.J. Lacey and Evelyn Knight; Sisters of the Cloth Quilting Guild; a host of nieces and nephews; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Emerson, in 1990; grand-daughter, Michele, in 1995; son-in-law, William Hatch, in 2011; brothers, Cornelius, Isaac and Earl Turner; sisters, Bertha Wallace and Sara Times; and parents, Dave and Martha Turner. Funeral service was. Tuesday, May 13 at St. John Missionary Baptist Church with burial in Lindenwood Cemetery.
