Olivia Fowlkes, 83, departed this life Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at Summit City Nursing & Rehabilitation. Born July 9, 1930, in Gadsden, Ala., she was the daughter of the late Willie Sr. and Madie Smoots. She leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Derrick (Sonya) Fowlkes of Gadsden, Ala., Moses Jr. (Kate), Kenneth and Ronnie (Tempa) Fowlkes all of Fort Wayne; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and brother, George (Donna) Smoots of Gadsden, Ala. Funeral service was Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Joshua’s Temple, 4202 Hessen Cassel Road with burial in Highland Park Cemetery. Arrangements were by Carmichael Funeral Service.
Patrick James Henderson, 50, of Evansville, Ind., passed away Friday, June 6, 2014. He was born Dec. 26, 1963, in Fort Wayne. He is survived by his sister, Rosie (Jay) Johnson; his brothers, Willie and Jonnie Henderson; two nephews; one niece; and other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Lillian (Walker) Henderson. Service was. Saturday, June 14 at New Joshua’s Temple, 4202 Hessen Cassel Road. Jacqueline Ruth (Harris) Lyons, went to rest in the Arms of our Heavenly Father on Saturday, May 31, 2014 after a five year battle with pancreatic cancer. Better known as “Jackie” by her family and many friends, she was born July 16, 1957 in Fort Benning, Ga. the daughter of Wilma Jones of Columbus, Ga., and the late James (Mary) Harris II of Tempe, Ariz. Jackie became an Assistant Director of the Reinsurance Department at Lincoln Life and later became Assistant Vice President of the Accounting Department when the company was later sold to Swiss Re. Surviving are her husband of 33 years, Robert F. Lyons Sr.; and her only child, Shona (Cory) Harris Kirkpatrick, both of Fort Wayne; and a host of other family and friends. Funeral service was Saturday, June 14, 2014 at St. John Baptist Church. Arrangements were by Carmichael Funeral Service.
Nicolas Xavier Palacio, 29, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2014. He was born Nov. 11, 1984. Surviving are his mother, Rosemarie Palacio; father, Mark Bland; fiancé’, Kyle Hatcher; one son, Davonte Holliness; two daugthers, Nickylah and Kyleah Palacio; and a host of other family and friends. Reginald LaMont “Lay Low” Starks, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2014, at home. He leaves to cherish many memories: his wife, Tracey Scott-Starks; daughters, Ciara (William) Royal and Regina Walker and Jhordyn Jenkins; parents, Robert and Sheila Starks; sisters, Michelle (Monte) Nelson, Jennifer (Al) Hughes, Shenise (Derrick) Arrington, and Sherlaine (Donald) Pitts-Anderson; brothers, Rodney Robinson, LaShane (Diane) Robinson and Jeffery (Tonya) Robinson; six grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Virgil Tharp, 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 16, 2014, at home. He was born on Nov. 8, 1930, in Fort Wayne. He was a 1948 graduate of Central High School and a U.S. Air Force veteran receiving several citations. Virgil was formerly employed by Dana Corp., General Electric and General Motors-Defiance. He retired from both International Harvester with 30 years of service and Phelps Dodge after eight years. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 49 years 11 months and four days, Patricia (Faulkner) Tharp; children, Shelia (Robert) Starks, Fred (Cheryl) Underwood, Kimberly (Michael) McCowin, Sonya Tharp, Toya Phillips, and Virgil A. (Chamessa) Tharp; brother-in-law, Dossie Burnett; along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a multitude of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Tharp Sr. and Fannie Tharp-Dudley; brother, Walter Tharp Jr.; sister, Betty Burnett; foster sister, Callie Allen; and grandson, Reginald Starks.
