Obituaries: Feb. 5 edition

Josie Irene Clayton, 99, was welcomed into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014 at Lutheran Hospital. Mother Clayton was born March 7, 1914, a daughter of the late Joseph and Bernetta (Thompson) Carter in Mobile, Ala. She accepted the Lord in her life at an early age. After coming to Fort Wayne, she joined the Mt. Olive Baptist Church now known as Union Baptist Church. She attended Central High School and graduated in 1930. Josie was joined in Holy Matrimony to Edward H. Clayton in 1943, and they later became members of Pilgrim Baptist Church. This marital union lasted for 60 lovely years until his passing in 2003. Left to cherish her memory are her nieces, Amy E. Powell, Dr. Lois Powell, and Evelyn Knight; a special family friend, Mamie Smith of Fort Wayne; other friends; the residents, caregivers and friends of Byron Health Care. Services were Monday, Jan. 27, 2014 at Byron Health Center Chapel, 12101 Lima Road with burial in Concordia Gardens, Lake Ave. Arrangements were by Ellis Funeral Home. Emma Jean Coleman, 65, departed on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014 at Parkview Hospital. She was born Dec. 11, 1948 in Greenwood, Miss., a daughter of the late Frank and Mamie Johnson. She confessed her hope in Christ at an early age. She leaves to cherish her memory her lifelong love, Leonard Thomas of Fort Wayne; one son, Jovon Johnson of North Carolina; one brother, Charles (Tangela) Johnson of Marlboro, Md.; two sisters, Ora L. Kinnie of Fort Wayne and Minnie L. (Roland) Dale of Shelbyville, Ky.; one grandson, Dylan Hampson of Texas; and her faithful dog, Butch; Emma will forever be missed by her two nieces, Alicia (Lorene) Ottley-Cobb, and Angela Ottley-Lewis who cared for her until her father called her home; she also leaves to cherish her memory special children, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Alice L. Ottley; and brother, Willie Johnson. Memorial services were Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014 at 1417 Fisher Street, Fort Wayne, (IN 46803).

 

William L. “J.R.” Norfleet III, 19, went home to meet the Lord Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014. He was involved with “Camp Watcha-Wanna-Do,” a camp for cancer patients. He leaves behind his grandmother, Beverly Elkins; mother, Letitia Elkins; father, William Norfleet ll; sister, Norreka Elkins; four brothers, MarQuis Hall, DeMarcus Norfleet, Jason Elkins and Tyrese Norfleet; and numerous aunts, uncles and loved ones. Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 27, at Greater Progressive Baptist Church. Arrangements were by Carmichael Funeral Home.

 

Ida Mae Simpson, 94, departed this life on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, at Parkview Regional Medical Center. She was born on April 9, 1919, in New Madrid, Mo. She leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Ollie (Barbara) Bassett, Darnell (Nefeesa) Hairston, William Hairston, Morris Simpson Jr., and Calvin Simpson; daughters, Vandetta Starnes, Earnestine Hairston, Celetta Mae Minniefield, Mary Louise (Bobby) Smith, Cora Lee Nikolaenko, and Tonia Woodberry; brothers, Gerald (Ann) Howard and George (Mildred) Howard; special cousin, Lottie Tredwell; special friend, Myrna Allen; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and other family and friends. Funeral service was Friday, Jan. 31 at Carmichael Funeral Service, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Arrangements were by Carmichael Funeral Service.

 

Anthony Duane Springer, 48, of Fort Wayne, departed this life on Friday, Jan. 24, 2014. He was born on Feb. 19, 1965, in Fort Wayne. Funeral service was Saturday, Feb. 1 at Carmichael Funeral Service. Arrangements were by Carmichael Funeral Service.

 

Constance M. Wade, 85, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014 at Heritage Park. She retired from Magnavox with 26 years of service. Surviving are her children, Beverly King, Linda Wade, Rodney Wade, Stephanie Lee, John Wade III and Leslie Porter; brother, John Henry Snorton Jr.; sister, Alice Ellis; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Wade II; sister, Isabelle Powell; and daughter-in-law, MoDora Wade. Service was noon Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014 at Lighthouse Deliverance Cathedral with entombment in Covington Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made in memory of Constance M. Wade to Heritage Park or Heartland Hospice. Arrangements were by Ellis Funeral Home. Lee Roy Williams, 60, of Fort Wayne, passed away Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, at his home. He was a disabled veteran and occasionally attended his brother’s church, Way of Holiness. He was a graduate of Francis High School in Marion, Ala. He is survived by his brothers, the Rev. Bennie (Carolyn) Williams and James (Mary) Williams; sisters, Helen (J.C.) Cherry, Pearlie Taylor and Mattie Williams; and his fiance, Glenda Norman. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, brother and sister. Funeral service was Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014 at Way of Holiness Church, 2101 Phenie Ave.
