Despite opinions widely circulated by his opponents, U.S. President Barack Obama has demonstrated that he is humble enough to publicly acknowledge a mistake–especially when it comes to a personal offense against a citizen.
President Obama wrote a handwritten apology to University of Texas art historian Ann Collins Johns last week after she took offense with an off-the-cuff dig he took at art history majors in a recent speech in Wisconsin.
“I promise you folks can make a lot more, potentially, with skilled manufacturing or the trades than they might with an art history degree,” Obama said in his Jan. 30 speech, which was focused on better aligning job training programs with employer needs. ” Now, nothing wrong with an art history degree — I love art history. So I don’t want to get a bunch of e-mails from everybody. “
