Neighborhood Health Clinics Inc. celebrates National Health Center Weekwith two free Community Health Fairs
FORT WAYNE—Neighborhood Health Clinics Inc. is scheduled to celebrate National Health Center Week with to free community health clinics this month. The times and dates for those health fairs are:
• 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Aug. 12 at the new Southeast Clinic at 3350 East Paulding Road, Fort Wayne St.; and
• 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Aug. 14 at the Main Clinic at 1717 South Calhoun Str.
The free community health fairs are scheduled to include:
• Information to improve your medical and dental health;
• WIC services;
• Balloon animals, and
• Cotton candy.
The Aug. 14 health fair is scheduled to include:
• Free health screenings which include:
• Cholesterol screenings (fasting required);
• Glucose screenings (fasting required), and
• Blood pressure checks.
Health screenings on Aug. 14 are supported by Parkview Health, the St. Joseph Community Health Foundation and the Dr. Lewis and Anne B. Schneider Foundation. Children’s activities are supported by MainStay Solutions.
NHCI offers family medical services, women’s health services, prenatal care, pediatrics, WIC (Women’s Infants and Children’s Nutritional Supplement program) and dental services.
In 2013, Neighborhood Health Clinics provided 33,396 medical visits, 14,653 dental visits and 13,238 participants in the WIC program.
America’s Health Centers, acknowledged as “local engines for healthier communities will celebrate National Health Center Week Aug. 10 through Aug. 16 as a celebration showcasing the Nation’s Health Centers. The health center model continues to prove an effective means of overcoming barriers to access including geography, income and insurance status and, in doing so, improves health care outcomes and reduces health care system costs.
Proponents explain that health centers save the entire health system approximately $24 billion annually by managing chronic conditions and keeping patients out of costlier healthcare settings.
