FORT WAYNE—The Junior Lillian Jones Brown Culture Club, (JLJBCC), a member of the National Association of Colored Women Club, (NACWC) invites the public to its 5th Annual Soul Food & Jazz Brunch FROM 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.,  Saturday, June 28, at First Wayne Street United Methodist Church, 300 East Wayne St.

The featured speaker is Mrs. Delania Thomas, vice president of the Indiana Federation of Colored Women’s Clubs, Youth Affiliate.  This year’s theme is “The Invisible Sisterhood.”

Entertainment is scheduled to be provided by the Simms Project and the Queens African-American Literature and Art Club (Queens) Inc.

Tickets are $20.00 adults, $7.00 for youth. All proceeds will go toward the Junior Lillian Jones Brown Culture Club Scholarship Fund.

The JLJBCC was organized in September, 1967.  The club grew out of the Lillian Jones Brown Culture Club which was the senior club.  Senior club member the late Mrs. Josephine Williams was appointed the club advisor.  The purpose of the organization was to promote the education of women and children, to raise the standards of the home, improve conditions for family living, protect the rights of women and children and promote interracial understanding so that justice may prevail among all people of the community.

The local club is a member of the Indiana Federation of Colored Women’s Clubs, Central Regional Federation of Colored Women’s Clubs, and member of The National Association of Colored Women’s Clubs.  The NACWC will be celebrating 118 years at the National Convention in St. Louis, MO.  We have four (4) members that are Life Members to the NACWC.  They are Theresa L. Moore, Joan L. Baines, Alice Booker, and Dian Hollins.  We have a club member that was the 36th Indiana State President and that is Joan L. Baines.

The club gives baskets and gift certificates during the holiday seasons.  The JLJBCC will continue to do all we can to promote the Federation of Colored Women’s Clubs, the community and its programs.
