Fort Wayne’s first Bachelor Auction coming to Legion Post 148

Special to Frost Illustrated

FORT WAYNE—Order a special designer drink and a get a paddle (a bidding paddle, get your mind out of the gutter) because the bachelor auction will be open at the American Legion Post 148, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Oct. 10, during the Fall Scholarship Festival. Several men in our community have put together dates for the highest female bidder. These men are donating their time and date options for a worthy cause; to raise dollars for scholarships to be awarded to local high school graduates.

A “modest” college budget for an in-state public college averages $22,826. Along with housing, meals, books, school supplies, and “miscellaneous” that modest cost can increase.  The goal of the Fall Scholarship Festival is to help fill the financial gap for several potential students and their parents. The American Legion Riders, a chapter of the American Legion, want to make a significant contribution in filling this gap.  By hosting the Fall Scholarship Festival they saw an opportunity to bring in the fall season for the community and raise those scholarship dollars.

Bachelor auctions have been popular as a fundraising event for only a few years.  Some organizations have used bachelor auctions to raise money for literacy, junior leagues, homeless shelters, food banks, and other non-profit organizations.  It is a fundraiser that is appropriate for adult groups who share an interest in the organizations goals and want to meet interesting men in the community.  Since Fort Wayne has a wealth of exciting, professional, talented, and adventurous men, who are unmarried, we are primed for this type of event.

But what about the women who don’t want the paddle (we can agree that many women want the paddle, but we are still talking about the bidding paddle)?  The Fall Scholarship Festival is open to the public so all participants can take part in chance games, a live auction for items, take a horse and wagon ride, and enjoy the special designer drinks during the festivity. A donation of $5 covers entry fee and food.

Come celebrate the coming of fall and Fort Wayne’s first bachelor auction with us.
