A federal judge on Wednesday struck down the ban on gay marriage in Texas.

The judge, Orlando Garcia of U.S. District Court in San Antonio, suspended his own ruling while a federal appeals court considers the matter.

He wrote: “Texas’ current marriage laws deny homosexual couples the right to marry, and in doing so, demean their dignity for no legitimate reason.”
