Man arrested on felony charges after standoff

FORT WAYNE—At approximately 4:24 p.m., May 4, the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the 4000 block of Oliver Street in reference to a disturbance involving a subject armed with a firearm.

Initial reports indicate a male and female inside the residence were involved in a physical altercation.  When a roommate attempted to intervene, the male suspect displayed a firearm.  As officers arrived on scene, three adult subjects exited the residence.  The male suspect that was armed with the firearm refused to exit the residence.  Officers made repeated attempts to make contact with the suspect via a loudspeaker.  The suspect refused to comply and voluntarily exit the residence.

At approximately 4:53 p.m., the Emergency Services Team (EST) and Crisis Response Team (CRT) were called to assist reference a barricaded suspect that was armed with a firearm.  Officers with the Crisis Response Team were able to make contact with the suspect and communicated to him via telephone.  The suspect agreed to a surrender plan and agreed to voluntarily exit the residence.

At approximately 7:43 p.m., the suspect, identified as Joshua J. Logue, 24, exited the residence.  He complied with verbal commands from the Emergency Services Team members and was detained without incident.  Logue did not incur any injuries as a result of the standoff.

The Emergency Services Team cleared the interior of the residence and no other subjects were located inside.

Logue was transported to the Detective Bureau for an interview and subsequently was charged with felony domestic battery and strangulation. Additional charges could be pending.

Nearby neighbors were evacuated from their homes for their safety during the three-and-a-half-hour standoff.  In addition, several roads were temporarily closed for public safety.  Smith Street, Oliver Street and Bowser Avenue were all closed between Rudisill Blvd. and Baxter Street during the standoff.

This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

 

Arrest made in gas station death

FORT WAYNE—The Fort Wayne Police Department has made an arrest in connection with the death investigation that occurred earlier this month.

David Randal Cocklin, age 56, of Fort Wayne, was arrested recently and charged with murder, a Class A Felony. He is currently confined at the Allen County Jail and being held no bond.

The arrest comes in the wake of a fight and stabbing near the intersection of Wayne Trace and Drexel Ave. On May 1, officers arrived at the scene and located an adult male in critical condition. Medics took the victim, later identified as Raynell C. White, 30, to a local hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced deceased by hospital staff.

The preliminary investigation so far has revealed a fight took place between two adult males on the lot of the nearby gas station. Witnesses reported seeing a pickup truck flee the area, possibly containing a person involved in the altercation. The pickup truck was located a short time later by a trooper with the Indiana State Police, and the occupant of the truck, Conklin, was detained by police.

He subsequently was arrested and charged with murder.
This incident remains under investigation with the City of Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

FORT WAYNE—The Fort Wayne Police Department is asking the public’s assistance in identifying the female captured in surveillance photos shown here:

The victim is an elderly woman who was leaving the parking lot at the Dollar General at 1133 Coliseum on March 11. She was flagged down by a female black who told her that her front tire was flat. The victim got out of her vehicle to check the tire at the same time another female entered the victim’s passenger door and stole her purse.

The photos are from the Wells Fargo on Bluffton Road. The female white in these photos used the victim’s personal and bank information to gain access to her account and steal money.

Anyone with information leading to the identification of the suspect is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 436-STOP (436-7867).
