Three Rivers Festival arrests, citations among lowest in 20 years

FORT WAYNE—Despite recording some of the largest attendance in recent years, arrests and charges at this year’s Three Rivers Festival were among some of the lowest ever.

According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, there were only four arrests or citations issued associated with the festival this year. They include:

• One misdemeanor charge of possession of spice Misdemeanor ( Gang/Violent Crimes Unit )

• One citation for an animal at the festival ( Animal Control Officers)

• One citation for no rabies vaccination (Animal Control Officers)

• One public nuisance citation (Animal Control Officers)

Those numbers are extremely low compared with numbers for the past 20 years of the festival:

• 1994 – 44

• 1995 – 46

• 1996 – 24

• 1997 – 8

• 1998 – 27

• 1999 – 20

• 2000 – 9

• 2001 – 4

•  2002 – 3

• 2003 – 2

• 2004 – 9

• 2005 – 10

Cyclist critical after being struck by SUV

FORT WAYNE—At approximately 6:40 p.m., July 26, the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a report of a person on a bicycle struck in the intersection of St. Joseph Boulevard and Tennessee Avenue.

Once on scene, officers observed an unresponsive juvenile cyclist down in the roadway. The cyclist was struck by a southbound SUV.

The preliminary investigation based on witness accounts has determined that the cyclist, who was eastbound on Tennessee, disregarded a red traffic signal, entered the intersection and was struck by the SUV. The juvenile was transported from the scene to a local hospital where he was determined to be in critical condition. The operator of the SUV was not injured in the accident.

This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutor’s office.
