FORT WAYNE—Fort Wayne Police Chief Garry Hamilton joined The Boys & Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne to emphasize the importance of being safe and responsible, by selecting a very special book to read aloud on March 2 at the Boys & Girls Clubs on Fairfield Avenue.
The event also recognized Chief Hamilton’s appointment as the new chief of police and his 19 years on the police force. Chief Hamilton is serving his second term as a member on the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Clubs.
“A Big Guy Took My Ball!” “Police Cat,” “Officer Buckle and Gloria,””Michael’s Golden Rules” and “Who Put the Cookies In the Cookie Jar?” were among selected favorites. Joining Chief Hamilton was special guest readers Chief Condra Ridley and Allen County Public Librarian Roberta Ridley.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne Executive Director Joe Jordan, noted, “Our city has a deeper appreciation for the importance of the sacrifices made by our law enforcement officers. Our mission at the Clubs is to provide a safe and positive environment for our children to grow and learn. As well as understand that being a good and responsible citizen is important. It certainly overlaps with the goals of our Police Department as they serve and protect our community.”
The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne is to inspire all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens. For more about the Boys & Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne go to www.bgcfw.org.
