FORT WAYNE—Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades renewed the consecration of the diocese to Jesus through the Blessed Mother at the 6 p.m. Mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Fort Wayne on Friday, Aug. 15, the solemnity of the Assumption of Mary.
Bishop Rhoades reconsecrated the diocese to the Blessed Mother during the Mass, which was streamed live from the diocesan website, www.diocesefwsb.org,
and live on Redeemer Radio, 106.3 FM.
To prepare for the renewal, Bishop Rhoades invited all to join him in the consecration to Jesus through Mary and proposed following the 33 days of preparation written by Father Michael Gaitley, a priest of the Congregation of the Marians of the Immaculate Conception. The guidebook, entitled “33 Days to Morning Glory,” includes prayers and meditations for each day, using the writings of St. Louis Marie de Montfort, St. Maximilian Kolbe, Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta and St. John Paul II, who were all deeply devoted to Mary. The diocesan parishes have distributed more than 10,000 copies of Fr. Gaitley’s book throughout the diocese.
A number of parishes offered the consecration in the parish settings. The book, “33 Days to Morning Glory,” contains prayers of consecration as well. The faithful were encouraged to make a good Confession near the day of the consecration as well.
After the Mass, the faithful were invited to join the Marian procession from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception to Headwaters Park in Fort Wayne. The Festival of Faith launched shortly after the procession.
