Shooting victim flees to fire station

FORT WAYNE—At approximately 12:45 p.m., July 10,  the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the intersection of Lillie Street and McKinnie Avenue on an initial report of shots fired in the area. A caller reported hearing shots fired in the area, then seeing a male on the ground. The shooting victim fled the area in a vehicle prior to the arrival of first responders.

At approximately 12:52 PM, it was reported that a shooting victim arrived at Fort Wayne Fire Station 11 at 405 E. Rudisill Blvd. First responders rendered aid there, and the victim was transported from Fort Wayne Fire Station 11 to a local hospital where his condition was downgraded from serious to critical.

Officers and detectives identified a crime scene in the front yard of a home in the 4400 block of Lillie Street. Evidence was also discovered in a church lot in the 1700 block of McKinnie Avenue. Crime Scene Technicians processed both scenes. A Canine Unit assisted in the investigation also, and tracked south of this location for approximately one block where the track terminated. Detectives canvassed the area for any possible witnesses. Initial reports received indicated that the suspect, a male Hispanic, fled the area on foot.

This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Assisting agencies include City of Fort Wayne Fire Department and Three Rivers Ambulance Authority.
