Recent Fort Wayne homicide rates for women different

FORT WAYNE—While, nationally, black women fall prey to homicide at three times the rate as their white counterparts (click here to read the full story), locally, statistics show a different trend in the Summit City.

According to data supplied by Richard Wurm, analyst for the Fort Wayne Police Department, more than half of the women who fell victim to homicide in the past three years were white—although black women constituted two-thirds of female homicide victims so far this year.

A breakdown of those statistics is as follows:

January-December 2011

• White female victims—one; Black female victims—none

January-December 2012

• White female victims—two; Black female victims—none

January-September 20

• White female victims—one; Black female victims—two
