Mattie L. Fields, 97, “Momma” passed away Monday, Sept. 16, 2013 at her home in Fort Wayne. Born in Alabama, Mattie worked as a Housekeeping Supervisor with State Health Care for 21 years, retiring in 1981. She was a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church; Senior Choir; Chancel Choir; Gospel Chorus and also served as an Usher at church. Surviving are her son, Thomas G. Fields of Fort Wayne; five grandchildren, also served as her loving children, Tunicia Fields, Eric Fields, Shameisha Moore; grandson, LaRoy Fields; granddaughter, Kimberlen (Timothy) Russell; 11 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. “Sonny” Fields; parents, James and Elsie Pratt Jackson; three brothers; and one sister. Funeral services were Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013 at Pilgrim Baptist Church, 1331 Gay Street with Pastor Sam Shade Jr. officiating and burial in Lindenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Pilgrim Baptist Church. Arrangements were by D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Avenue.
Randy Lee Jefferson was born on Nov. 23, 1966 in Fort Wayne to Loistien Jefferson of Fort Wayne and the late James Walker of Lorain, Ohio. Randy departed this life quietly in his home on Friday, Sept. 7, 2013 in Greensboro, N.C. Randy loved his family. He confessed to Christ at an early age. He retired from his place of employment Sherwin-Williams Paint Inc. due to illness in 2011. Randy leaves to cherish in his memory his mother, Loistien Jefferson-Kurtz and stepfather George Kurtz; two daughters and seven grandchildren, Janieka McCracken and her four children, JaKaylah, JaKahi, JaKaj and JaKier Rich all of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Randasha Guy and her three children, Datayvion and Ja’ziyah Guy and De’mariea Chism all of Atlanta; four sisters, Schrell and Maecell Jefferson, Margie Jefferson-White and Brenda Whitt and two brothers, Donald and Winfred Jefferson all of Fort Wayne. Randy shared a unique and special relationship with his nieces and nephews, family, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, James Walker, brothers, Ernest Jr. and Isaac Jefferson and a sister, Doris Jefferson. Randy was the youngest of 10 children, he will be dearly missed. Memorial services were Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at Ellis Funeral Home. Arrangements were by Ellis Funeral Home.
