Obituaries: Oct. 23 edition

Ricardo Marquette Hood, 33, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Monday, Oct. 7, 2013. He was born December 29, 1979, in Birmingham, Ala. Surviving are his son, Anthony Hood; daughter, Nikiah Hood; mother, Brenda (Bishop E.C.) Haywood; brother, Clinton Hood III; sister, Ashanti Hood all of Fort Wayne; and a host of other relatives and friends. Ricardo was preceded in death by his father, Clinton Hood. Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013 at Greater Christ Temple Church, 2940 S. Anthony Blvd., with burial in Prairie Grove Cemetery. Arrangements were by Carmichael Funeral Service.


Bertha Lee Miller, parted to be with the Lord on Friday, Oct. 11, 2013. Born Nov. 9, 1921, in Sunflower, Miss., she was a daughter of the late Minnie Lee Giles and Will Miller. “She was a woman with endearing charm and personality was loved by all.” Surviving to cherish her memory are children, Rosemary (Troy) Merritt, Chris (Dr. Ernest) Levister, Gloria J. (Larry) Forte’, and Jean (Gary) Brides; George W. (Lena) Miller, and Paul A. (Pam) Miller; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grand children; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hester Miller Sr.; son, Hester Miller Jr.; and one grandchild, Byron K. Hummons. Services were Saturday, Oct. 19 at Lutheran Life Villages Chapel, 6701 South Anthony Blvd., Fort Wayne.


Andrewla Wesley Morris, 38, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, at Englewood Health & Rehabilitation Center, Fort Wayne. Surviving are her sister, Celetta Mae Orlanda Morris of Fort Wayne; niece, Komecia T. Taylor of Fort Wayne; and nephew, Romeo T. Morris of Fort Wayne. She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew Jackson and Lucille Elizabeth Morris. Arrangements were by Mungovan & Sons Memorial Chapel.


Victor N. Slayton Sr., 77, of Fort Wayne, passed on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at St. Joseph Hospital. He retired from Fort Wayne State Develo mental Center with 35 years of service. Surviving are his mother, Ida Mae Howard-Simpson; sons, Victor Jr., Darrel (Joann) of Indianapolis, David and Berry Slayton; daughters, Stacy and Tracey Slayton, Shellie (Kenny) Alexander of Dosoto, Texas, and Trinnie (Arron) Peterson of Atlanta; companion, Jean Smith; brothers, Ollie (Barbara) Bassett, Darnell (Nafeesa) and William (Viola) Hairston of Washington, Morris Jr. and Calvin Simpson; sisters, Vandetta Starnes, Ernestine Hairston, Celletta M. Minniefield, Mary Louise (James Bobby) Smith, Cora Lee Nickolaenko, and Tonia Woodberry; and a host grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Services were Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at Ellis Funeral Home, 1021 E. Lewis St., with burial in Lindenwood Cemetery. Arrangements were by Ellis Funeral Home.
