Obituaries: Nov. 6 edition

Kyla Monee Burton, 24, of Fort Wayne, passed on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013. She was born Sept. 8, 1989, in Fort Wayne. Surviving are her daughters, Alexis Kemp and Alexzandria Kemp; parents, Willie and Janice Burton; sister, Tiffany Burton; fiance, Walter Kemp; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were Friday, Nov. 1, 2013 at Carmichael Funeral Service, with burial in Lindenwood Cemetery. Arrangements were by Carmichael Funeral Service.

 

Major Lewis Calmes, 57, of Fort Wayne, departed this life on Monday, Oct. 14, 2013. He was born March 13, 1956, in Crawford, Miss. Major accepted Christ at an early age and joined Union Baptist Church in Mississippi. He relocated to Fort Wayne in 1976. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed making people laugh and he had a passion for dancing. He was loved dearly by his family and friends. He will always remain in our hearts and will be missed dearly. Surviving are his brothers, Noah Calmes, Willie B. Calmes, Major L. Calmes and Kelvin Calmes; sisters, Barbara Watt, Cornelius “Betty” McCarter, Mary Dickerson and Frozie “Sweet” Calmes all of Fort Wayne. Major was preceded in death by his parents, William H. and Willie Lou Calmes; brothers, William Calmes, Harry Calmes and Aaron Calmes. Visitation was Oct. 25, 2013 at Carmichael Funeral Service with burial in Lindenwood Cemetery. Arrangements were by Carmichael Funeral Service.

 

Verna Elizabeth Howard, 92, passed on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013. Born in Birmingham, Ala., she was a member of Greater Progressive Baptist Church. Surviving are many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Barbara Chambers. She was preceded in death by husband, Willie; and son, Dave Lee Chambers. Prayer service was Monday, Oct. 28 at Mungovan & Sons Memorial Chapel, 2114 S. Calhoun St. Arrangements were by Mungovan & Sons Memorial Chapel.

John H. Tucker Jr., 82, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013. Born May 10 1931, in Jonesboro, Ark., he was a son of the late John and Roberta Tucker. John was an avid golfer and member of the Par Tee Golf Club and also worked for GE for 27 years. Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Sandra Tucker; daughters, Tracy Tucker, Tammy Tucker and Tonya Norman; son, Kurt (Cindy) Powell; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. John loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also loved holding babies. Funeral services were. Friday, Oct. 25 at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 6600 Covington Road, with calling two hours prior. Memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association, American Cancer Society or the A.S.P.C.A.
