Obituaries: July 24 edition

Sandy “Boody” Bennet Jr., 65, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2013, at his home. Born in Newbern, Ala. he moved to Fort Wayne in 1968 and worked construction for years. Surviving are his wife, Adell Bennett; children, Sandy Bennett III, Alester Davis, Sandy LaShaun Washington, Loree (Demetreus) Price, Sandra Colette Connors, Dori Jordan, April Moore, Demita (Alan) Wyatt, and Sheryl (Theo) Allison; siblings, Mose, Robert and William “Mickey” (Hattie) Norfleet, the Rev. David (Ruby), Glen (Peggy), and Frankie (Wanda) Bennett, and Rhonnie (Jimmy) Scott; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Services were Saturday, July 20, 2013, at True Love Baptist Church with interment in Covington Memorial Gardens. Arrangements were by Ellis Funeral Home.

 

Jowanna “Pinky” Brown, 54, departed this life on Friday, July 12, 2013. Funeral service was Saturday, July 20 at Greater Christ Temple, 2940 S. Anthony Blvd.,

 

Jaidah Rochelle Davis, 16 months, passed away peacefully in the presence of her loving family on Sunday, July 7, 2013, at Riley Children’s Hospital, Indianapolis. Surviving are her mother, Jakesha Davis; step-father, Glen Rork; sister, Jalayah Davis; grandparents, Keva and Jason Caley; uncle, Jason (Destany) Davis; aunt, Jasmine Davis; special cousin, Jason Davis, Jr., and a host of other family and friends. Funeral service is noon Saturday at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, with burial in Lindenwood Cemetery. Arrangements were by Carmichael Funeral Service.

 

Jaiden Cor’Nell Lee Larry, infant son of DeVita Williams-Lockett and Tommie Larry Jr. of Fort Wayne, was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 8, 2013, while at Riley Children’s Hospital. He was born on Dec. 19, 2012. Services were Monday, July 15, 2013, at Turner Chapel AME Church, 836 East Jefferson Blvd. Arrangements were by Nelson Memorial Gardens Inc.

 

Terrie Elaine Swift, 51, of Fort Wayne, died on Wednesday, July 10, 2013. Funeral serviceswas Friday, July 19 at Greater Faith Baptist Church, 625 E. Wayne St.

 

Sherri McPherson was born to Oscar and Wilma Jean McPherson-Cooper in Fort Wayne on Nov. 23, 1962. She accepted Christ at a young age at Antioch Baptist church where she was baptized by the Rev. Walker. Sherri attended South Side High School. She received her diploma in 1982. She played basketball, volleyball and ran track while at South Side. She worked at Indiana Die & Molding until her illness took over. The joy of Sherri’s life was her family and friends. Her grandchildren were the twinkle in her eyes. She loved spending time with her nieces and nephews skating and riding bikes. She picked up the art of quilting from her mother and she loved the challenge of making the perfect quilt. Her best friends were Molly Trigg, Monique Causey and Zig Davis.

On July 6, 2013. God saw your pain, he knew your journey had become more than you could bear. God ordered His angel to mount up on his great white horse and descended down to South Park Drive. “Mount up, my child Sherri McPherson, for she has borne the burden much too long.” Sherri was surrounded with loved ones at her side. She leaves many fond memories to her son Paul McPherson; her mother Wilma Jean McPherson-Cooper; her siblings Judy McPherson, Wendell McPherson (Lisa McPherson) of Fort Wayne, Oscar McPherson Jr. (Lois McPherson) of Jackson, Miss., Alisa Coats,  Erica McPherson, Melinda Johnson,  Rhondda Hawkins, Ricky McPherson; three grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father Oscar McPherson Sr.
