Wardell M. Hodges Jr., 69, passed away Friday, June 21, 2013 at his residence in Fort Wayne. Born in Sheffield, Ala., Wardell retired as a supervisor with G.T.E. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Hattie (Thompson) Hodges of Sheffield, Ala.; two sisters, Dr. Brenda Hodges-Tiller of Albany, Ga. and Mrs. Claire Joyce (Thomas) Paige of Killen, Ala.; nieces; nephews; grandnieces; grandnephews; cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Wardell M. Hodges Sr. The family received guests at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2013 at Trinity Memorial Funeral Home, 3935 Second Street, Muscle Shoals, Ala., with a Memorial Service to follow. Local arrangements by D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home.

 

Larry D. Houston, 53 departed this life Thursday, June 27, 2013 at St. Joseph Hospital with his family at his side. He attended Northrop High School. Larry leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Leona Walker; brothers, Glenn Houston, Kenneth Brown, Bruce Walker, Linon Houston Jr. and Alvin Houston; sisters, Lois (Al) Walker and Vickie Cobbins; aunts, Katie Kimbrough and Shirley Boykins; uncles, Walter and Bruce Kirksey; nieces, Nicole, Lakisha and Erika Houston; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Linon Houston Sr.; stepfather, Willie Walker; brother, Roderick Houston; sisters, Vanessa A. Houston-Hill and Linda Houston; and uncle, Dannie Kirksey. Services were Monday, July 8, 2013 at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1151 Francis St. with interment in Lindenwood Cemetery. Arrangements were by Ellis Funeral Home.

Ernestine Washington, departed this life Thursday, June 27, 2013, at home, with family at her side. She was a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church and of the American Legion Post 148 Ladies Auxiliary. She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Tanisha Dunbar; god-daughters, Betty Warfield and Linda Samuel; loving niece, Ernestine Hicks; stepson, Charles Washington; sister-in-law, Savannah Hicks; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in by death by her parents; husband, Willie; sister, Louise Samuel; brothers, Ocie, Clarence Sr. and Homer Hicks; niece, Dora Ann Easley; nephew, Ronnie Samuel; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Hicks. Services were Friday, July 5, 2013 at Pilgrim Baptist Church 1331 Gay St. with interment in Covington Memorial Gardens. Arrangements were by Ellis Funeral Home.
