Margaret Wambui Andai, 31, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2013. Arrangements were by Ellis Funeral Home.

 

Alonzo Gordon-Blaine “Papa Hots” Edmonds, 92, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2013, at Lutheran Hospital. Born Nov. 15, 1920, in Grand Rivers, Ky., he was an active and faithful member of Shepherd of the City Lutheran Church for over 50 years. He was also a member of the Fort Wayne Retired Men’s Club and Our Brothers Club. He was previously employed by the Fort Wayne Country Club for many years. In 1983, he retired from Rea Magnet Wire after 15 years of service. Surviving are his daughters, Alanza (Frank) Jackson and Bridget Edmonds; grandchildren, Alyssa (Cory) Brown and Tyler Jackson; great-grandchild, Jayden Jackson; along with a host of other relatives and lifetime friends. Services were Saturday, May 18, at Shepherd of the City Lutheran Church, 1301 S. Anthony Blvd., with burial in Covington Memorial Gardens. Arrangements were by Ellis Funeral Home.

 

Arielean Grant Hutchins, 77, went home to Glory on Sunday, May 12, 2013. She was born on Jan. 1, 1936, in Meridian, Miss., a daughter of Paymon and Minerva Grant. Raised in Fort Wayne, she was the seventh of 15 children. She leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Ted R. Hutchins; six children, Gary Hutchins, Roosevelt (Brenda) Hutchins, Henry Hutchins, Gwendolyn (Mark) King, Saxon Hutchins, and Andre (Talitha) Hutchins; siblings, Thomas, Rosalie, Hardy, Anna, Beverly, Catherine, Ulysses, Revelia, and Tabitha; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Essie, James, Felix, Roger and Callie. Services were Saturday, May 18, at Shiloh Baptist Church, with burial in Lindenwood Cemetery. Arrangements were by Ellis Funeral Home.

 

Geneva Murdock, 83, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, surrounded by her family. A native of Lexington, Miss., she was a homemaker and a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church. She leaves behind her sons, Taft Jr. (Yvetta), Ralph, Alvin (Shelia), and Melvin Murdock; daughters, Mabeline (Curtis) Hurse, Mary Ann (David) Johnson, Hazel Lawson, Linda Murdock, Geraldine (Fredrick) DeBruce, Elaine Caldwell, and Michelle Moore; 42 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Services were Friday, May 17, at Imani Baptist Temple, 2920 Indiana Ave., with burial in Lindenwood Cemetery. Arrangements were by Ellis Funeral Home.

 

Virigilio “Virgil” Pena, 79, passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. Virgil worked as a machine operator with ALRO Steel for 25 years, retiring in 1999. He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, he enjoyed music, singing, and dancing. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Concepsion Pena of Fort Wayne; daughters, Martha Sosa of Dallas, Texas, Elda (Stuart) Oberley, Yolanda Pena and Lisa (Brian) Mast, all of Fort Wayne; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and brother, Raymundo Pena of Houston, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Clemencia Pena; three brothers; and three sisters. Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, May 20, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Arrangements were by D.O. McComb and Sons Foster Park Funeral Home, 6301 Fairfield Ave.

 

Michael Smith, 59, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Covington Manor Nursing Center. Born in Fort Wayne, he was the son of the late Joe and Margaret Smith Jr. He leaves to cherish his memory his siblings, Amos and Bishop Joe A. (Phyllis) Smith, William Spence, Fred Steward, Michelle Smith-(Rev. Frederick) Latham, and Vivian Jones-Bradley all of Fort Wayne, Lincoln Smith of Cincinnati, Ohio, Marvin (Madelyn) and Steve Smith, both of Atlanta, Ga., and Roger (Savannah) Smith of Columbus, Ga. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Samuel Lee Smith; and grandparents, Joe and Alberta Smith Sr. Funeral services were Monday, May 20, at Pilgrim Baptist Church, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Arrangements were by Midwest Funeral Home & Cremation Society.

 

Pastor Robert V. Williams, 67, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2013. Born May 28, 1945, he was a 1963 South Side High School graduate; served in the Army; worked at Dana for 10 years; and was an entrepreneur. He was a member of Evangelist Center Church of God in Christ. Surviving are his children, Alisa Brooks, Sierra DuBose, Danielle Williams, Glenn Brewer, Jason Brooks, and Daniel Williams; sister, Joann (Donald) Nelson; and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline; and siblings, Ralph, Jettie Martin, Ramona Govan, and Francine Townsend. Funeral services were Wednesday, May 17 at Kingdom Door Christian Worship Center, with burial in Lindenwood Cemetery. Arrangements were by Ellis Funeral Home.
