Wilbert “Will” Anderson, 57, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2013, at Dupont Hospital. He was a graduate of R. Nelson Snider High School, longtime owner and operator of Will’s Place Barber Shop and he recently opened Phat Headz. Surviving are his daughter, Krista (Anthony Jr.) Anderson-Pettus; mother, Nell R. Anderson; siblings, Alfred III (Denise), Barney, Robert, Randle and Louise Anderson and Carolyn (Arthur) Moore; grandson, Clythell “CJ” Branson; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred R. Anderson II; and two brothers, Ruben and Tommy Lee Anderson. Services were Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Greater Progressive Baptist Church, with burial in Covington Memorial Gardens. Arrangements were by Ellis Funeral Home.

 

Derek Q. Blanks, 51, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2013, at home. He was born on March 24, 1962. He graduated from South Side High School and Butler University, in Indianapolis. For several years he lived in Indianapolis. Surviving are his mother, Freda Blanks of Fort Wayne; daughter, Bianca Blanks of Indianapolis; sister, Andrea Blanks of Los Angeles, Calif.; brothers, Paul Jr. of Fort Wayne, Phillip Sr. (Denise) of Indianapolis, Frederick of Fort Wayne, and Jonathan of Washington, D.C.; two nephews; two nieces; two great-nephews; and a hosts of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Blanks Sr. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements were by Ellis Funeral Home.

 

Sanders Davis Sr., 85, of Fort Wayne, departed this life on Wednesday, April 17, 2013. He was born on July 4, 1927, in Clarkedale, Ark. Surviving are his sons, Sanders (Verlinda) Davis Jr., Bryant Davis, Alvin Davis, and Alan (Demita) Wyatt, all of Fort Wayne, and Deon (Danette) Davis of Indianapolis; daughters, Shirlene (James) Stephens, Kathy Davis, Carmela Davis, and Janice Wyatt, all of Fort Wayne, Linda Davis of Indianapolis, and Marbell Johnson of Benton Harbor, Mich.; twin brother, Clarence Davis of Detroit, Mich.; 23 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Funeral services were Saturday, April 27 at True Love Missionary Baptist Church, with burial in Highland Park Cemetery. Arrangements were by Carmichael Funeral Service.

 

T.B. Eldridge, 90, died on Monday, April 22, 2013. He is survived by two sons, Thurman “Billy” Eldridge and Larry Eldridge; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Service were Friday, April 26, 2013, at Carmichael Funeral Service, 831 East Jefferson Blvd., with burial in Concordia Cemetery Gardens. Arrangements were by Carmichael Funeral Service.

 

Mabel R. “Granny” Goings, 86, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Grover Hill, Ohio, Mabel was the first African American Indian that worked for I&M as a receptionist and retired after 38 years of service. She was a member of Turner Chapel AME Church. “Her heart and life was always an open door, much like the arms of the Lord. Granny was always ready to serve those in need and was truly blessed with the gift of giving and compassion and never meeting a stranger.” Surviving are her children, Sharon (Reggie) Jordan of Huntertown, Milton “Corky” Turner, Marsha (Rick) Tabron White, Linda “Squeak” Causey, Christina I. Goings, and Carlos Goings, all of Fort Wayne, and Harrison Madison of Atlanta, Ga.; sister, Rosetta Mae Norwood of Los Angeles, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and her significant other, Raymond J. Mudd of Fort Wayne. She was preceded in death by her father, Earl Goings; mother, Mary Turner; and a granddaughter, Artia Cooper-Causey. Services were Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Turner Chapel, 836 E. Jefferson Blvd., with the Rev. Kenneth Christmon officiating and entombment in Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Freddie May James, 75, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at Parkview Regional Hospital. She was a native of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and moved to Fort Wayne in 1981. She was a member of Southern Heights Baptist Church, worked for Value City Department Store and was a foster grandparent for Wings of Deliverance Daycare. Surviving are two sons, Darrell (Dolores) Earl Jones of Chicago, Ill. and Lawrence Williams of Fort Wayne; two daughters, Linda Jones-Martin (Tony) of Buffalo, N.Y. and Lisa Jones-St.Clair of Fort Wayne; siblings, William and Charlie (Bessie) Adams, both of Fort Wayne, Lillie Shears of Fort Wayne and Annie Laura Petty of Augusta, Ga.; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, William; and sons, Kenneth James and Alfred Jones. Services were. Monday, April 22, 2013, at Greater Faith Baptist Church, 625 E. Wayne St., with burial in Highland Park Cemetery. Arrangements were by Ellis Funeral Home.

 

John C. Lee Sr., 67, of Fort Wayne, departed this life on Friday, April 19, 2013. He was born on Nov. 5, 1945, in West Point, Miss. Funeral services were Saturday, April 27 at Tabernacle Baptist Church, with burial in Covington Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements were by Carmichael Funeral Service.

 

Dorothy M. Woods, 74, of Fort Wayne, departed this life on Saturday, April 13, 2013. She was born on Aug. 9, 1938, in Cruger, Miss. Funeral services were Friday, April 19 at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church with burial in Covington Memorial Gardens. Arrangements were by Carmichael Funeral Service.
