Willie J. Figgs, 45, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2013. Born in Safford, Ala., Willie was a patient care tech with Parkview Regional Medical Center and member of Robinson Chapel United Methodist Church. Surviving are his mother, Bettie Figgs; brothers, Ivory (Cynthia) Morgan, Robert (Ginger) Figgs, Clarence (Donna) Figgs, Jerry (Samantha) Figgs, and George Figgs, all of Fort Wayne; sisters, Annie (Wendell) Boddie and Artha (Alonzo) Maxwell, both of Fort Wayne; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, George Figgs; and grandmother, Annie Tabb. Services were Monday, March 25 at Robinson Chapel United Methodist Church, 12707 Tonkel Road, with the Rev. Jill Wright officiating and burial in Highland Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Robinson Chapel United Methodist Church or Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana. Michael E. Hatcher, 63, formerly of Fort Wayne, passed away on the Sabbath—Saturday, March 9, 2013—in Columbia, Md., following a short illness. He retired from the University of Illinois after more than 20 years of employment. Surviving are his mother, Addie Lee Hatcher; siblings, Jerry (Carol) Moore, Bernice (Samuel) DeShay and Robert Hatcher; a special friend of the family, Velma Majors; along with a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Hatcher. A Celebration of Life service was held Sunday, March 24, 2013, at Body of Christ Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1902 S. Hanna St., with burial in Covington Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials to the Body of Christ SDA Church or Indiana University Scholarship Fund. Arrangements were by Ellis Funeral Home.

Essie (Bowman) Johnson, 82, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2013, in Fort Wayne. Born April 10, 1930, in Elaine, Ark. she was a daughter of Elbert and Pearl Bowman. Surviving are sons, Edward Johnson Jr., Willie Lee and Clarence Johnson, Carl A. Johnson; daughters, Erma J. Sanders and Arnette Wilson; a sister, Elle Jones; special friend of the family, Carmen Hernandez; 37 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward Johnson; and a son, Robert L. Johnson. Funeral services were Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Greater Progressive Baptist Church, 2215 John St., with burial in Covington Memorial Gardens. Arrangements were by Ellis Funeral Home.

Carwon R. “Deac” Jones Jr., 59, passed away Thursday, March 14 2013. He was born Nov. 14, 1953 in Kansas City, Mo. He retired from General Motors Fort Wayne Truck plant in 2000 as a Pipe Fitter and Robot Technician. Surviving are his wife, Louise D. Jones; many family members and friends. Services were Friday, March 22, 2013 at Saint James UMC, 5540 Wayne St., Kansas City, Mo. 64110, with local visitation Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at New Hope UMC 1503 with the Rev. J.T. Menifee St., Anderson, Ind. Arrangements were by L.C. May Funeral Services, Anderson, Ind.

Rodney Rogers, 23, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2013, at Parkview Hospital. He was a 2008 graduate of Wayne High School. Surviving are his mother, Tonya Rogers; father, Jamal Dixie; sisters, Kenyetta Kelso and Shaquilla Rembert; grandmother, Linda Brangain; grandfather, Matthew Henderson Sr.; and a host of other relatives. Services were Friday, March 22, 2013, at Come As You Are Community Church, 7910 S. Anthony Blvd., with burial in Concordia Lutheran Gardens. Arrangements were by Ellis Funeral Home.
