FORT WAYNE—At approximately 3:11 a.m., June 9, the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the area of E. Lewis Street and S. Hanna Street on a report of a male shot. Officers arrived and located an adult male lying in the parking lot of the American Legion, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Officers tended to the victim, later identified as 37-year-old Jabron Totton, until relieved by Fort Wayne Fire Department and Three Rivers Ambulance Authority personnel. Medics transported Totton to a local hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Information available immediately after the incident indicates the victim had gotten into an argument inside the American Legion earlier in the evening with unknown subjects, but the argument was suppressed. A short time later, the victim exited the bar and was shot as he was standing next to a vehicle.

It is unknown at this time if the assailant was lying in wait, if the suspects were involved in the original argument, or what exactly transpired.

There are currently no suspect or vehicle descriptions, and no one is currently in custody.

Nearby businesses with video surveillance will be reviewed for any potential evidence.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.

The incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

Assisting agencies include the Fort Wayne Fire Department and Three Rivers Ambulance Authority.
