Haven Unique

Frost Illustrated Staff Report

Local rising teen pop singer, Haven Unique, lent a hand to the youth journalism program sponsored by Frost Illustrated on Nov. 11. The students conducted a press conference as a learning exercise in which they asked the young artist interview question.

According to her website, www.havenunique.com, Haven Unique Burnett-King, born on June 13, 1996, in Fort Wayne. At age three Haven performed her first 30-minute concert at the family Christmas Party. The family was so amazed by the spontaneous performance that it was only after she was finished when they realized no one recorded the performance. This same spontaneous performance came again at age five, performing the same genre of music and again because of the spontaneity no one recorded the performance.

Haven currently sings in her church choir and has sung in the Fort Wayne Children’s Choir, Weisser Park Performing Arts, Memorial Park Performing Arts, Leo Senior High, and The Voices of Unity Performing Arts Foundation Choirs. She also has participated and participates in her school and church dance programs; jazz, ballet, hip-hop, and praise dance. In July 2010 Haven as member of the Voices of Unity Choir was invited to represent the United States of America in the 6th World Choir Games in Shaoxing, China. They competed at the highest level and won two gold medals, with the Voices of Unity named Grand World Champions.

Haven’s distinctive voice and sound caught the ear of music producer B. Smith of Deceptaconz Productions who lives in Atlanta. He later sent Haven a beat and the song “Wit My Girlz” and the stage name Haven Unique was created. The song became an instant hit with family, friends and the community. That convinced the team to produce a second song called “Like This.” “Wit My Girlz” and “Like This,” which became Haven Unique’s first CD demo debut into the music industry. She began selling the demos and sold out in the first week. “Like This” also is available on iTunes.

With the help of Grammy winning producer Tim Mingo of Bolo Productions and producer B.Smith of Deceptaconz Productions, Haven Unique looks to release her first pop album in 2014. She is scheduled to release her new video “Like This” along with a behind the scenes look on the making of the video Nov. 22 at Indiana Institute of Technology, 1600 E. Washington Blvd. during a special release party. The party is being held in conjunction with the Jr. Frost Certificate Ceremony beginning at 6:45 p.m. ending promptly at 11:30 p.m.
