The Fort Wayne Community fishing Club is scheduled to present the 16th Annual Fishing Derby. The Derby is scheduled to be held from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., June 8 at the Ivan Lebamoff Reservoir Park Pond. School age children (ages 12 through 16) and senior citizens (age 65 and older) may fish free. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. All other adults may fish but are encouraged to make a donation.

The Fishing Derby is the tip off of the Summer/Fall Fishing Program. Each year, the club, through its fundraising efforts, stock the pond with fish for a day of fun, relaxing and friendly competition. Prizes are given out for the biggest fish by categories. Utilizing a mentor relationship, caring members, volunteers and experienced anglers, teach life skills associated with fishing and offer adventurous outdoor activity to a diverse youth population. Parents are welcome and encouraged to participate in every sponsored activity. Children may sign up for membership at the Derby or call (260) 456-1616 or (260) 413-0571.  Through fishing, children experience a positive alternative to negative, risky behaviors and possibly a great lifelong sport.

Since its beginning, the club has seen many children become productive young men and women in our community. Annually, the Derby draws more than 200 children and senior citizens.

Organizations like the Fort Wayne Community Fishing Club are needed and are very important for today’s youth. Without the dedicated work and time put in by its members and volunteers and contributions from community leaders, we couldn’t make this possible. We’d like to thank those who have contributed in the past and welcome those who would like to make contributions now and in the future.

There or more than 15 active Club members and volunteers who all give their time and expertise to make this event successful. The Club is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that fosters community involvement through the love of fishing and mentorship.

Willie E. Jordan, is president of the Fort Wayne Community Fishing Club; John Holder is vice president, and Tony Truelove is treasurer. For more information, contact Jordan at (260) 413-0571 or
