Man killed in Melita Street shooting

FORT WAYNE—At approximately 11:55 p.m., Oct. 6, the Fort Wayne Police responded to a reported shooting located at 345 Melita St. On arrival officers did find an adult male unresponsive on the front porch area of the home. Medics determined the adult male, later identified as 33-year-old Ricardo M. Hood, to be deceased.

According to preliminary reports, it appears Hood attempted to burglarize the home when confronted by the homeowner who had armed himself. Shots were fired by the homeowner in defense of his person striking the deceased. The homeowner was the only person at his residence at the time of the incident and it is believed that Hood acted alone.

This incident is being investigated by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Coroners office and the Allen County Prosecutors office.

 

Traffic stop ends in crash, injuries

FORT WAYNE—At approximately 9:35 p.m., Oct. 7, the Fort Wayne Police Department Gang Unit attempted a traffic stop on a white 1995 Chevy Camaro in the area of Holton and Fisher streets for a speeding violation. It was reported that the vehicle initially slowed and pulled over as though it was preparing to stop however the vehicle proceeded at a high rate of speed from officers traveling south on Holton Street.

The vehicle continued south on Holton where the driver lost control traveled off the roadway and impacted a utility pole in the 3200 block of Holton Street sheering the pole in half. The vehicle continued out of control and eventually hit the front porch of a home located on the northwest corner of Holton and Drexel Streets. Fort Wayne fire personnel had to extricate one of the occupants the other male was not trapped. Both were transported to a local hospital where they were listed in serious but stable condition.

Officers working the incident did recover a handgun from the vehicle which was discovered while rendering aid to the victims.

This incident is being investigated by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutors office.

 

Shooting on Colerick Street

FORT WAYNE—At approximately 8:12 p.m., Oct. 12, officers of The Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the 800 block of Colerick Street in regard to a shooting. Multiple complainants called in hearing gunshots in the area. Upon arrival Officers located a juvenile male in the alley south of 800 Colerick Street suffering from an apparent gunshots wound. The victim was responsive and transported to a local hospital in serious condition by medics (TRAA). While at the hospital, the victim was downgraded to critical condition.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the shooting took place in the alley south of 800 Colerick Street where the victim was found. Further investigation indicates that the victim may have known the shooter. There is a person of interest in custody at this time. The Fort Wayne Police Department Gang Unit was instrumental in the suspect’s apprehension. All other leads are still being followed and possible witnesses being sought.
