“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort which we ourselves are comforted by God.”—2 Corinthians 1:3-4

God affords us comfort, not to solely comfort ourselves but that we might aid those in need of comfort.

The Annual Dinner of Thanksgiving is much more than a thanksgiving dinner; it’s a fellowship of “giving” and of giving thanks. It’s a time to give thanks to the Lord by serving and comforting others.

From 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, we will celebrate the 15th Annual Dinner of Thanksgiving at the Samuel Walker Community Center 1151 Francis St.

The good old fashion thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings is only a part of the day’s blessing. We will give away slightly used clothing donated by members of the community and provide health screenings by registered nurses who volunteer their expertise.

We have held our dinner in several venues including the Weisser Park Youth Center, the League for the Blind and Disabled and, most recently, at our current location at the Samuel Walker Community Center.

This year is very special because we will honor previous volunteers who helped make the dinner a great blessing and who have since gone home to be with the Lord.

Finally, the third Annual Eugene and Ola Mae Page “Outstanding Servant of Christ” Award will be presented to the individual/s who exemplify the loving, caring and sharing spirit that my parents demonstrated during their earthly journey.

May I extend a very special thank you to the Samuel Walker Community Center, to the community, and to all the volunteers who continue to assist us with their time, gifts, talents and prayers. May God continue to bless you and your families.
