City youth centers participate in Safe Haven Basketball Classic

FORT WAYNE—The Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation Department’s Annual Safe Haven Tourney will be held between several area youth centers including Lakeside Middle School, Weisser Park Elementary and Greater Progressive Family Life Center, beginning at 6 p.m., Friday, Oct. 11 and all day Saturday, Oct. 12.

The registration deadline for the Safe Haven Basketball Tournament is Sept. 23. The entry fee is $125 per team and each team will be guaranteed three games. Competitive teams from Fort Wayne and the Midwest, including some of the best high school basketball players in the area, will be competing.

The Safe Haven Open Houses will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. as follows:

• Oct. 8 at Weisser Park Youth Center, 802 Eckart St.

• Oct. 9 at Cooper Community Center, 2300 S. Clinton St.

• Oct. 10 at Jennings Recreational Center, 1330 McCullouch St.
